We've all been there; the sinking, post-work out feeling of dread as you realise you've left your towel at home and you are currently sweating like there's no tomorrow! There are a few essentials that every man needs in his gym bag to avoid similar disasters, and to help keep yourself looking fresh - no matter how hard a session you've just finished.
An absolute essential. Chose a brand with either a neutral or masculine fragrance, which can also be used as shower gel to save space in your bag. One of the best-selling shampoos here at Jacks Male Grooming is the Redken Mint Clean as it lathers up well when used as shower gel and offers a refreshing minty fragrance. Don't forget your towel!
If you like to shave after the gym, invest in a spare razor to keep in your gym bag (just remember to clean it after each use!). If possible, get one which doesn't require a plug as you can never guarantee space at the shaver sockets. To prevent you carrying round a veritable bathroom's-worth of products, always have a moisturising shave gel in your bag, which reduces the need to take an extra bottle of moisturiser with you. Try the Kyoku Shave Cream for Sensitive Skin which provides a fragrance free, moisturising gel, which feels great, and helps provide the perfect close shave with no irritation.
If, like many gym changing rooms, yours is rather warm and doesn't allow you to cool down quickly after your work out, a powerful deodorant is a must. You probably already have your own favourite product, but if you feel like you're still leaving the gym a little less than fresh, towel yourself dry and then apply a light layer of a spray on deodorant on the areas where sweat gathers (underarms, bottom of your back, backs of your knees) before you dress. This, as well as your usual deodorant, will stop dreaded sweat patches appearing through your clothes as your body cools you down. We recommend the Blue Beards Revenge Scent… it’s got a skull on it!
Underwear:Always, and I mean ALWAYS, have spare (clean) underwear in your gym bag. Putting on sweaty underwear or socks after having showered takes you right back to square one, and can cause infections such as athlete's foot, or fungal growths around the toe nails. If you're prone to forgetting to pack clean underwear, buy a multi-pack of socks and boxers and store them in your bag.
Multi-packs are usually very compact (saving space) and will ensure you have a few spare pairs available if you forget to change your kit around (or if you're just a bit lazy!)
Pretty simple, no? If you like to further groom yourself post-work out, think about hair straighteners, a hairbrush, and maybe some hair styling products to suit your style. A small bottle of aftershave will keep you smelling fresh, and complete your post gym grooming routine. Now, to the gym!
