#5: Los Angeles
How could a city be home to Hollywood and not be a fashion capital of the world? Defined by media elements like 'Who Wore It Best' and 'Fashion Master or Fashion Disaster', Los Angeles is the Mecca of pop-culture-fueled fashion statements and cutting-edge men's designs. Schedule a trip to LA in March for the Spring Fashion Week or in October to catch the Fall Fashion Week to see what next season's popular designs are going to look like.
#4: Milan
Italians are known for a few things, and one of them is their elegance -- and Milan has taken that idea to an entirely new level. Milan's secret is that the best fashion scene isn't at Milan Fashion Week -- it's sitting out on the streets, watching casual-savvy Italian men set the bar out of reach of most Americans while merely waiting for their morning cappuccino. Of course, if you can manage to wrangle your way in to the invite-only Fashion Week (it's in September), you're certainly going to be witness to some stunning men wearing some equally stunning outfits.
#3: Paris
Paris' men's fashion scene is best described as 'iconic' -- and the fashions as 'sophisticated'. Paris' designers always manage to produce timeless male looks that will be just as dazzling in a decade as they are today -- and yet somehow manage to capture the contemporary essence of each season along the way. The Musee Galliera (the Paris Fashion Museum) is open year-round if you happen to miss Paris Fashion Week (late September to early October).
#2: New York
A lot of people don't believe that New York will ever be anything other than #1 for men's fashion, and for good reason. Home of the Fashion Institute of Technology Museum as well as the classic Project Runway and of course the famous New York Fashion Week (mid-September) -- and don't forget the Costume Institute at the Met -- New York is a must-see city for any connoisseur of men's fashion. But there's one place that's an even bigger star on the fashion map...
#1: London
London has a massive base of fashion senses that it brings together -- from the punk movement to the highest heights of haute couture -- and it does so with a uniquely elegant style. With fashion icons ranging from yesteryear's Terence Stamp (the 'Steve McQueen of London') to David Beckham and of course the Royal Family's entourage of smartly-dressed men, London isn't likely to be knocked out of the first-place spot for men's fashion in the foreseeable future.
London's Fashion Week runs from the 16th to the 21st of September -- but if you can't finagle an invite, be sure you visit London town from the 5th to the 11th of September to see High Street Fashion Week on the world-famous Oxford Street, one of the fashion hubs of the fashion capital.
