As perhaps one of the most crucial accessories a person can have throughout the warm summer months, sunglasses are a staple in the wardrobe of almost any person.

With the modern environment demanding that each accessory becomes increasingly multi-functional it’s given that sunglasses should soon assume this role and one company in California is already starting to work on this premise.

Vergence Labs Glasses for social media sharing

Vergence Labs are bringing together the idea of putting a small computer inside your sunglasses which can allow you to stream and record video the way that you see it.

The computer will record exactly what you see in real-time and allow you to share it across a social network in the same way that you would currently share videos or photographs.

The company hopes that it will encourage users to record their real-life experiences and then share them across popular social networking sites including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, allowing other users to share the experiences with them. In addition, the sunglasses offer a real-time streaming feature which allows images to be directly uploaded to a social networking site as they are being viewed.

In addition to providing a very functional purpose, the company also hopes to keep in line with the traditions of sunglasses by making them incredibly fashion-forward and combining the computer in with many popular sunglasses styles, shapes and colours – thus making them a popular option for the mainstream consumer, even if they don’t wish to use the video recording technology.

Although the video recording technology is one crucial aspect of this design, the sunglasses also offer an “electric powered sunglass” feature which uses chromatic shifting conductive glass to essentially turn the sunglasses on or off as required. This electric sunglasses lens capability allows the user to tailor their sunglasses to the given weather and lighting conditions of their surroundings.

The sunglasses are expected to hit the retail market soon and could pave the way for a whole revolution of sunglasses which incorporate the ever-growing and ever-popular idea of social media.
